Dr Joanne Sewell MBBS MSc FRCGP - Diploma in Western Medical Acupuncture
I trained at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London and qualified as a General Practitioner in 1993 so I have plenty of experience as a doctor. I worked for 4 years in Buckingham (North End Surgery) and 10 years in Daventry (Abbey House Medical Practice). I am now working as a locum doctor in a variety of surgeries.
I am a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, which is the highest quality award a GP can achieve.
I developed my interest in acupuncture by attending the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS) foundation course in 2005 and started treating NHS patients while I was working in Daventry. The popularity of the treatment grew to the point that I was running a weekly clinic.
I have gained more experience of acupuncture by attending the BMAS teaching clinic in London, the Northampton General Hospital pain clinic and a local acupuncturist. I continue to improve my knowledge and techniques by attending updating courses with the BMAS and I have been awarded a Diploma in Western Medical Acupuncture by the University of Hertfordshire. This involved studying advanced skills in acupuncture and reviewing my own clinical care by comparing it with current evidence about the effects of acupuncture.
I have indemnity insurance with the Medical and Dentists Defence Union of Scotland (MDDUS).
